Always Remember

To appear and share treasures with the full world, the local people of Ilocos Sur conceived a celebration that highlights these social conventions and they called it the “Kannadiwan Festival”. It may be a celebration that endures from the last week of January up to the primary week of February.

Back when we don’t have Covid-19, Kannawidan Festival is usually celebrated with lots of people. On the opening day of the festival, a traditional ritual is performed by the students of the Ilocos Sur, especially high school students. There are different contests that focus on the ability and skills of the students. These include traditional tribal rituals, choir, and glee club competitions, marching band contests, traditional music ensembles, dance drama, traditional and folk dances, contemporary dance competitions, and street dancing showdowns. The celebration is to pay more consideration to the children. The perception of numerous conventions, melodies, moves, and other Ilocano societies are not recognized by the more youthful eras of the territory. Instead, children are paying more consideration to the present day and oddity moves they see on TV than the conventional ones. It is one of the reasons why the Kannadiwan Celebration is conducted.

But today it is celebrated with limited people and limited events. The pandemic did not stop the festival, it did occur. The government officials and health facilities made a way to celebrate it in a safer way. By the use of new normal celebration through online meetings and streamings. Kannawidan Festival has more to offer for each and every one. Together with the rich culture of Ilocos Sur tourists for sure will love it. Our culture will be forever cherished within celebrating the festival. It is important to respect and always remember our culture to know where we came from.
