Education over Pandemic
COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by a new strain of coronavirus. This new virus and disease were unknown before the outbreak began in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. The whole world is affected and currently suffering from this, lives have changed the way it was. Job, way of living, health, economy, and education are all affected.
Despite the pandemic, government officials had found ways in order to continue just like life before the pandemic. Social distancing and wearing face masks are few ways to avoid infection of viruses. The education also continued, it is the distance learning. To help schools adopt this flexible learning scheme, CHED developed PHL CHED Connect which houses free higher education materials that can be used for teaching, learning, and research purposes. Meanwhile, the lower education, led by DepEd, has also been preparing for remote learning through the DepEd Computerization Program which aims to provide equipment to all public schools, and the Public Education Network which ensures that all schools and offices are connected.
The downside of this new system of education is we are not able to learn decently. We can’t perform demonstrations and experiments for future purposes. Lack of signal and internet connections are very common especially here in the Philippines. Parents who haven’t graduated can’t teach their children properly. Poverty also is an obstacle through this new education system.
Perhaps this is only the start, there’s always room for improvement. Maybe they could sight these challenges that we’ve been
suffering too. Enhancement of this system is a must, good quality always wins. We
will also win over this pandemic, we need to cooperate and think wisely.
